Vidhi Thakkar

Available on: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30pm (AEDT time) Friday from 12pm (AEDT time)

Languages: Vidhi also offers counselling sessions to people who speak Gujarati and Hindi.

Vidhi supports individuals working through anxiety, depression and stress; grief and loss; questions of identity and belonging; and the impacts of marginalisation. She has particular experience with LGBTQIA+ communities; migrants; and those who have grown up between cultures.

Background:

Vidhi supports individuals navigating cultural identity, the experience of marginalization, and the quiet grief of becoming someone new  including those who have moved countries, spent their lives between cultures without fully belonging to either, or are rebuilding a sense of self after significant change. She also supports people working through anxiety, depression and stress; grief and loss; and the long aftermath of past addictive behavior, including the identity and relational shifts that come with it.

Specialty:

Vidhi helps people facing anxiety, depression and stress; grief and loss; parenting and family challenges; work and caring responsibilities; and questions about cultural identity. She is experienced in supporting those affected by marginalisation, including LGBTQIA+ and gender diverse people; those living with chronic illness or disability; and migrants navigating cultural complexity.

Approach:

Vidhi’s style is warm, flexible, and grounded in respect for your pace and inner wisdom. Drawing from approaches like narrative therapy, parts-based work (IFS), mindfulness, and other integrative methods, Vidhi takes time to understand what matters to you and shapes each session around your unique needs. She looks beyond symptoms or labels, focusing on your whole story including your challenges, strengths, and hopes. Vidhi believes therapy isn’t about “fixing” you, but about building understanding, connection, and a sense of safety so you can explore what’s most important in your life.

Perspective:

Vidhi thinks of the therapeutic relationship as a space where nothing is required of you before you’re ready. She is particularly drawn to working with people who carry things that don’t yet have a name – the quiet disorientation of a life in transition, the exhaustion of feeling like you don’t quite belong. Her role is to walk alongside you with steadiness and curiosity, at whatever pace feels safe. She believes that where you are right now still counts.

Important Notice

There are some people that our counsellors can’t work with – not because we don’t want to, but because we want you to have the best possible care.

If you currently experience domestic violence, are having a mental health crisis, are experiencing severe substance dependency issues, or other acute crises, we can’t provide you with the level of support you deserve. However, we will use your initial appointment to connect you with places that specialise in these issues, so you can get the best possible care.
