Nathan Gurry

Nathan supports individuals navigating anxiety, feeling overwhelmed and overthinking; grief and loss; and experiences related to neurodivergence (diagnosed or undiagnosed).

Background: Nathan is an ACA registered Counsellor who offers counselling via telehealth. He works with individuals across Australia and brings a calm, practical approach to supporting people through emotional challenges, life transitions, and patterns that may feel difficult to shift.

Specialty: Nathan specialises in supporting individuals experiencing anxiety and stress; grief and loss; and those exploring or understanding neurodivergence, including ADHD and autism. He works with people who may find themselves caught in patterns such as overthinking, people pleasing, emotional shutdown, or feeling overwhelmed, and who are looking to better understand themselves and respond differently.

Approach: Nathan takes a practical and grounded approach to counselling, helping you recognise when you may be caught in patterns like overthinking, overwhelm, people pleasing or emotional shutdown. He understands these responses as protective patterns shaped by past experiences, rather than signs that something is “wrong” with you. In sessions, Nathan works with you to notice what is happening in real time, understand why you may be responding that way, and develop steadier, more helpful ways of responding without forcing or over-analysing everything.

Perspective: Nathan values honesty, clarity and respect in the therapeutic process. He views many challenges as understandable responses shaped by past experiences and context, rather than personal flaws.

He aims to create a space where you feel safe to be real about what’s going on, without pressure to perform or fix yourself. Nathan works alongside you at a pace that feels manageable, supporting you to develop a clearer understanding of yourself and move forward in a way that feels grounded and aligned.

Important Notice

There are some people that our counsellors can’t work with – not because we don’t want to, but because we want you to have the best possible care.

If you currently experience domestic violence, are having a mental health crisis, are experiencing severe substance dependency issues, or other acute crises, we can’t provide you with the level of support you deserve. However, we will use your initial appointment to connect you with places that specialise in these issues, so you can get the best possible care.

Why your mind gets stuck in loops, what keeps overthinking going, and what actually helps

Do you find yourself replaying conversations long after they’ve happened, analysing every possible outcome, or struggling to switch your mind off?

Many people assume they overthink because they haven’t found the right answer yet. If they could just think a little harder, prepare a little more, or find the perfect solution, they’d finally feel calm and certain.

Unfortunately, overthinking rarely works that way.

In this recorded workshop, counsellor Nathan Gurry explores what overthinking is, why it happens, what keeps it going, and practical ways to develop a different relationship with your thoughts. Watch at your own pace and return to the content whenever you need.
